A digital afterlife for Aphrodite of Melos

Venus de Milo, or Aphrodite of Melos, is one of the most recognizable sculptures in the world. We produced our replica as a full-scale object that demonstrates how large-format 3D printing can faithfully capture the character of a classical sculpture while completely concealing traces of the manufacturing process.

A classical icon interpreted through digital fabrication

The reference point was one of the world’s best-known sculptures, instantly recognizable thanks to its proportions, stance, and famously missing arms.
Twelve segments, one coherent object

We printed the replica in twelve parts, and the key challenge was to eliminate all visible evidence of segmentation after assembly.
Surface finishing without printing traces

After joining and hand-finishing, the figure had to read as a unified sculptural object rather than a large technical print viewed up close.
Stone-like finish for exhibition use

Although the original is marble, we chose a calm sandstone-like finish that emphasized the sculptural quality of the replica and worked well in display settings.
A demonstrator for fairs and exhibitions

The figure was shown repeatedly as a demonstration of Monkeyfab’s capabilities at academic venues, trade fairs, and industry events.
